Pedro Nezahualcoyotl Nava, artisan who exalts Tlaxcala’s textile heritage / @alefrausto @cultura_mx >>>

#SecretaríaDeCultura.- Born into a family of textile artisans from Contla de Juan Cuamatzi, Tlaxcala, Pedro Netzahualcoyotl Nava is heir to ancestral techniques that, with dedication and perseverance, he has complemented with studies to achieve the consolidation of his own style, which has taken him to the award podium on several occasions in just eight years.

Defender of his origins, the artisan recalls that the first toys he had were the bobbins, shuttles and threads with which he wove his childhood dreams in the warmth of the home where his parents taught him the first steps in textiles.

«The shuttles were part of my daily game and from there I unconsciously began to adopt a taste for the workshop without realizing what it was all about. When I started elementary school my interest in knowing what my parents did began, but it wasn’t until high school when I helped a little more in the workshop, like passing the threads, bobbins or tying the pieces they made.

Pedro Netzahualcoyotl studied Industrial Engineering as his first career, but his ability, taste and inclination towards handicrafts led him to opt for the professionalization of handicraft techniques through a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Tradition at the Centro Morelense de las Artes.
